"Parents' active encouragement and support for their children's learning produces academic benefits and children have a more positive attitude."
Schools Secretary Ed Balls
Recognising the role of parents
Parents and carers have a crucial role in supporting their children at every stage of education. We are committed to finding out what parents and carers think about their children’s experience of school and to using these views to shape the curriculum. Read about what parents are saying to us in recent conversations with parents.
What QCDA is doing now...
Supporting school-parent interaction
Parental involvement can make a difference to the success of children and their schools. We are running a research project investigating the strategies used by schools to involve parents. We will use what we learn to support schools in working with parents.
Tapping into networks
Parents are difficult stakeholders to reach. How can they be persuaded to give up their time to attend events to discuss educational matters? Many organisations have established effective networks with parents. We are investigating how we can tap into these networks to establish contact with a broad range of parents. We are also researching the most effective ways for us to engage directly with parents.
Handy guide to the new secondary curriculumQCDA has developed a short guide to help parents understand the exciting new opportunities for students as a result of the introduction of the new secondary curriculum which is being introduced from September 2008. This is available as a pdf download on the right hand side of this page. |
