Engaging mathematics for all learners

The new secondary curriculum aims to inspire all young people to become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens. As a result, the mathematics programmes of study have changed significantly.

Every learner is entitled to experience mathematics as worthwhile, enjoyable and challenging, regardless of their prior attainment and background. One way of realising this is to make ‘enrichment and enhancement tasks’ available to all learners.

QCDA has produced a guidance booklet for teachers of mathematics in schools and colleges, advisers and trainers.  It gives guidance and support on how to make mathematics more exciting, meaningful and relevant for all learners. It will help you reflect on and develop mathematics enhancement and enrichment in your curriculum and supports the new programmes of study for mathematics.
 
The guidance also includes some practical activities to stimulate a conversation with colleagues in your institution and decide on ways forward.
