What are we trying to achieve through the curriculum?

'If you don't know where you're going, you'll probably end up somewhere else.'

Alice in Wonderland

The first step in your curriculum journey is to be really clear about what you are trying to achieve. What are you educating your young people for? What do they need to know, to understand, to be able to do and to be like? What do they think the curriculum is all about? Only when these things are clear can you make decisions about how to design your curriculum.

QCA has worked with schools to develop activities to clarify what they are trying to achieve through their curriculum. We have also done some work on curriculum aims from a national perspective. Select from the activities above to help you clarify what your school community wants to achieve for young people through the curriculum.

If you develop other activities to help people engage with this question, we would love to hear from you. Use the forum to share your approaches so that others can learn from your successes.
